Students are expected to study for tests and presentations, unfortunately, many are never given practical guidelines for how to maximize their learning so they think they need to have long study sessions to try and cram information in before a test. Effective study skills are incredibly beneficial and will serve a person long after their formal education days are over. If you have a desire (or need) to learn new things, the tools in this class will benefit you! I love to teach study skills because of the value it adds to a person's life throughout their life (I still use these techniques!) What is the critical window for information retention, what should you do with your study time, how often should you study and for how long? All of these questions (and more) are covered in depth in this course. Most people believe that proper studying or "studying hard" should involve hours of focused studying over the material they desire to learn/memorize. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) that is actually not the best way to learn material. Moreover, cramming by studying for hours at a time makes it harder for your brain to process and retain information for a long period of time. This class is perfect for anyone who could benefit from acquiring new skills to help improve their current memorization abilities or anyone who has existing trouble studying or memorizing information. Students who apply the information gained through this class will see an improvement in grades, and overall ability to recall information. There is no required prior experience or knowledge, just an open mind and a willingness to apply new study techniques. The class format will be both interactive and lecture based. The class will include lecture and student interaction. Class will end with a review of the key course information and each student will share something they learned or found helpful/valuable.
Learning Goals
Students will learn new study skills and to increase their retention and long term memory.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Foreign Language
I taught public high school for 7 years and quickly realized that most students were never given proper education on how to study for tests so I always made sure you make room in my curriculum to teach my students these life changing study techniques that I acquired during college. The information from this class completely changed the way I studied and from that point on I never went a semester without making it on the Dean's List for my grades and I graduated from the distinguished Honors Program at Texas Christian University.
