Students will be given a weekly spelling quiz.Class Experience
This class is designed for students who want to improve their spelling and handwriting skills with other kids who know ASL. The focus of this class is to apply the ASL manual alphabet to engage your child's brain in a different way while they're practicing spelling. The class format will be highly interactive both student-teacher and peer-peer. Each week, I will provide students with a theme/topic based word list. Class time will be spent practicing spelling the words together and peer-peer. Students will practice both writing and using ASL to spell the words. The goal is to make progress on both of those motor skills, and their spelling skills/memorization capabilities. It's an ongoing class, and does not build upon itself, with the exception that class will begin with a quiz from the prior week's words, so students can pop in at any point and be able to join without feeling "lost." In order for your student to have the best success, please ask them about their spelling words and encourage them to practice daily. Using the ASL alphabet is an amazing way to help your student practice because anywhere they go, they always have their hands and can practice spelling any time at all! Each class will begin with a quick quiz from last week's words to help you and your student gauge their progress. Weekly Words: Week of August 28th: animals Week of Sept 4th: numbers Week of Sept 11th: colors Week of Sept 18th: fruit Week of Sept 25th: breakfast foods Week of Oct 2nd: vegetables
