55 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This class is a dedicated space to get some work done and hold each other accountable. Sometimes we all just need to know that there is someone there with us as we work hard to accomplish tasks - sometimes called a body double. Learners are invited to bring any work or play that they need some help tackling. We'll check in with each other, share our goals, and get to work. A general timeline of the class (subject to change based on participants): - At the beginning of each class we'll do a verbal/written check in on what everyone is planning to accomplish in class. Then we'll mute ourselves and get to work. This portion of the class will be CAMERAS ON. After our check in cameras can be off for the remainder of the class if learners prefer. - We'll spend about 45 minutes working on our tasks. Ms. Brekke will be available in chat to answer any questions, provide encouragement, and offer a short check-in about halfway through to keep everyone on task. - At the end of class we'll do a quick check-in about how things went and give each other props for working hard. Please note: each class will follow the same general timeline and each learner's work will be self determined. Examples of work that may be accomplished in class: homework, reading, art projects, writing projects, cleaning up a room, practicing an instrument. Each learner is expected to bring their own work and goals to class - but Ms. Brekke can provide a little direction if helpful. For example, a learner has a lot of homework and they aren't sure where to start or they aren't sure if they should tackle homework or cleaning their room during our work time.
Learning Goals
- Learners will set short term intentions and work towards completing them
- Learners will practice sharing with their peers

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Ms. Brekke. I love teaching about gardening, sustainability, nature, and other environmental topics. I also love being outside and hope to share my love of nature with your child. I come to teaching with the dream that everyone can be comfortable growing a small amount of their own food and learn to appreciate time spent outside. My approach to teaching is to share my appreciation of gardening and growing with my students so that they can see the same wonder I see. I bring mindfulness and joy to every class I teach and look forward to sharing that with your child.
I have a bachelors degree in environmental studies, a masters degree in sustainable food systems, and am certified in permaculture design. I am currently studying to become board certified in holistic nutrition and registered as an herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. I'm excited to bring my passion for nutrition and herbs to my classes. I have over 15 years of experiential education teaching on environmental topics as well as over 6 years of experience teaching team building and mindfulness. I am also working on building my own urban homestead on my small city lot in Chicago where I live with my partner James.
If you have any questions please reach out to me. Please allow 48 hours for a response. I look forward to working with your child in class!
