In this one time class, students will celebrate National Poetry month by springing into poetry, uncovering poetic language and devices; as an added bonus, students will create their own poetic masterpieces.

Class experience

US Grade 5 - 7
Students will dissect a poem, "Spring, the sweet spring" by Thomas Nashe, and uncover the rhyme scheme as well as learn poetic devices such as alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia, repetition, and imagery.  In addition, students will learn about the Haiku poem and venture to write their own Haiku.
I have 20 years of experience teaching English Language Arts to students ages 10-18.  I've taught poetry units, Shakespearean units, short stories, mythology, novels, American Literature, Gothic Literature, and so much more.

Students will create at least 2 original poems.
Grades Offered
A guided notes handout in the form of a pdf will be provided by the teacher.  Learners can use a digital platform to take notes or print it out for use during class.

This class will use Kahoot! as a fun follow up tool toward the end of class to gage each learner's knowledge gained.  Learners should log in to the platform prior to class to ensure access.
