Sight Word Super Stars! - Session 1B

In this multi-day course your child will build early literacy skills that are the foundation of becoming a successful reader! Sight words are commonly used words that young learners are encouraged to memorize because they usually do not follow phonetic spelling patterns and cannot be decoded during reading. It is important for beginning readers to become familiar with sight words to increase accuracy, fluency, comprehension and confidence while reading!
The focus of this course is to practice/review pre-k sight words and to build your child's confidence as a beginning reader. On Mondays your child will be introduced to 2-4 sight words.  Then, we will practice the sight words by chanting, singing and spelling each word. We will practice making sentences with the words and writing the words on a white board. On Wednesdays we will review the sight words by reading and spelling each one. Then, we will practice reading the sight words in context (books, slides, sentences) and playing games to build recognition. Each week we will review the sight words from the previous week(s).

Your child will be introduced to and practice the following pre-k sight words during this course:

Week 1 - play, in, run
Week 2 - come, it, not
Week 3 - here, is, said
Week 4 - make, help, big
Week 5 - jump, a, red

*Students should know their letters and sounds and be able to write all letters for best results!

*Student participation is key to student success! The students will be unmuted for full participation so please ensure that class is taken in a quiet environment. :) Also, taking turns is a great way to learn from other students! There will be times when the students will repeat after me, all answer together and take turns.
