Class Experience

This course is for learners who want one on one help with writing short stories. Each week we will focus on a different part of the 5 part story plot with tips and tricks. Learners are expected to use those tips to work on their story during the week and bring it to class the following week. Learners are encouraged to submit their writing before the class itself, but it is not required. During class the learner and teacher will review what the learner has written and receive feedback and editing. At the end of class they will receive their writing assignment for the following week. Every five to six weeks learners will have a completed story.

6 Week Cycle:
Week 1: Choosing a plot for the story
Week 2: Introduction: Who are the characters and where are they?
Week 3: Problem or Conflict: What do the characters have to overcome?
Week 4: Events: How do the characters try to solve the problem?
Week 5: Solution: How do they solve the problem?
Week 6: Ending: What happens to your characters now and how have they changed through the story?
(After first cycle week 1 and 6 will be combined)

***Tutoring Sessions are by parent request only. No auto scheduling is available

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
