US Grade 2
This is an ongoing class which meets once a week. In each lesson learners will be taught standards-aligned vocabulary at second grade level, learners at 1st grade or 3rd grade are welcome to join. Each lesson will focus on a new set of words enabling this class to be a drop in class, learners may drop/in and out as needed. This class will not require any preparation, an additional homework printable activity will be available although optional. This class has a 14 week cycle which will repeat. In each class we will learn 10 new vocabulary words, we will learn their definitions and practice using them writing sentences and playing vocabulary games. This class will teach Tier 2 high-frequency vocabulary seen across subject areas on standardized tests. For Example in our class on week 1 we will learn these words : bright, cliff, Earth, evening, peak, planet, shelter, universe, warn and wonder. We will use the words in sentences, we will learn their synonyms, we will use the words in a multiple choice quiz, we will make connections with closely related words which will help us apply meaning and word choice in our writing.
