Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Form drawing, originally developed by Rudolf Steiner for Steiner and Waldorf schools, goes beyond handwriting or art and seeks to give learners an integrated sensory experience, engaging sight, hearing, touch, movement, and more in the writing and drawing process.

In each session, not only will we learn to draw a new form, pattern, or motif, but we will also follow the same process of
1. observing the educator drawing
2. exploring the form through active movement, utilizing planning, imagination, and purpose as the student experiences spatial directions, movements, and relationships
3. drawing the form in the air as they engage and stimulating and coordination the left and right sides of the brain and body, gradually bringing the large or gross motor closer into a more fine motor experience
4. setting the form down on paper, practicing until it is beautiful and pleasing to the eye

All of these skills can eventually lead to better handwriting, but also a better sense of coordination, the ability to move and write with confidence, understanding left and right, being able to mirror and reverse forms, hand-eye coordination, fine motor dexterity, the ability to observe and repeat, spatial orientation, a sense of balance, and more.

Each lesson stands independent of the one before it.
