Do you see all of the games on Scratch and wish you could make your own? This class is best for students already familiar with Scratch, either through having taken other classes or by having explored and created on their own. Week 1: Day 1: Don't Touch the Lava: This is a paddle and ball game where the students can control the paddle with arrow keys, but if they don't make it to the ball in time, it falls in the lava! I will be going step-by-step to show kids how to create their own games, but they will have a lot of creative control when it comes to how the final game will look. Day 2: Bullseye This is a target shooting game that allows players to aim and fire. Their points tally as they score, and there is also a high score feature. Day 3: Eat The Cheese With this game, students pick a character that is being chased and one that is chasing (in my example, it is a cat and mouse). The mouse runs around collecting as much cheese as possible before being caught by the cat! [NOTE: These games may change per student request] Week 2: Day 4-6 Code your own game or expand on one that we already created. Learn tips and tricks! Please make sure to be logged into your Scratch account at the beginning of each class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Join me on a journey of creativity and fun! I have been a teacher in California for nearly 20 years and am currently an independent study teacher. My most common review so far has been praising my patience, and I really care that all students succeed in my classes.
Scratch courses
I will be offering various Scratch courses for students to learn the basics of Scratch and how to make games and projects. This has unexpectedly become my niche with Outschool, and I have a great time guiding kids through the process of coding games and creative projects on Scratch.
Writing classes
One of my passions is helping students work on their writing skills. I also love integrating creative writing with technology because I think allowing students to practice their creative writing while learning more about technical skills, such as creating slideshow presentations, enables them to build skills that they will take into the workforce in a fun, engaging way.
I received my degree in English from Bryn Mawr College in '98 and went on to earn my teaching credential from Dominican University in '02.
I taught as a classroom teacher for 11 years, at different times having every grade from 1st through 5th, but primarily teaching 2nd and 3rd. I currently work at a blended independent study school with students in grades K-8, meeting with them individually about their homeschool learning. I also teach an enrichment class for 7th graders on campus.
I live on a sheep ranch near the coast and love getting out into nature when I can. I truly love working with students and can't wait to work with you!
