1 hour per week. Science project data will be collected by learners outside class timeClass Experience
Over the course of five weeks, students will be introduced to scientific method and the basic steps and processes involved in conducting research. Learners will learn through hands-on activities and by conducting their own scientific investigation. They will learn to record and organize data, and to create multiple types of graphs using Google Sheets. They will also learn to present the data from their investigation using Google Slides. Please see the learner supply list before signing up. Following must be done prior to the first session: Please have the learner create a Gmail account if he/she doesn't already have one. Students need to be at least 13 years old in order to be able to create their own accounts, so younger learners may need parents’ assistance to set up a Gmail account. Please see the link: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1350409?hl=en I may use presentations, worksheets, videos and simulations to teach this course. I may utilize online assessments to check for student understanding. Worksheet packets that go along with the presentations will be provided. Students are expected to take some notes as they fill in the blanks on the handouts. This class is an interactive class; when in doubt, students are encouraged to ask questions. I will be assisting students while they work. Students may have some amount of homework. The recording of each session will be available to enrolled students after attending one live session (as long as there are students present in each session). This is meant to help learners review or catch up if they miss anything during class as the class may have diverse learners. Day1: =>Introduction to scientific method =>Project discussion: starting a project Day 2: =>Experimental variables =>in-class group work =>Collecting and recording data using google sheets =>Project discussion: setting up the experiment at home and sharing the progress Day 3: =>Organizing and graphing data =>Visualizing and analyzing data using google sheets =>Project discussion: collecting the data and sharing the data with the teacher Day 4: =>Review of data collected by learners =>Project discussion: project presentations Day 5: =>Students share their project presentations with the class. NOTE: =>I will leave the zoom session if nobody shows up within the first 5 minutes of each session. =>class may run over the allotted time (by 5 to 10 minutes) at times
