In this interactive summer camp, students will practice using British English words and phrases. This is a great camp for Harry Potter fans or fans of British TV shows as they'll learn many of the words and phrases used in popular British culture. Students will learn about travel and transportation, different household items, weather words, and most importantly, we'll talk about food! Students will each practice using the new words and phrases in their own sentences. Day One: On the Way to the Underground: Students will travel to the underground subway station and learn words and phrases associated with travel in England. For example, we'll travel over a "sleeping policeman" - a speed bump, "Mind the Gap" while stepping onto the subway, and look for the "Way Out", or the exit. We'll practice words associated with houses, schools, and household objects. Day Two: We'll look in the wardrobe, or closet, for different items of clothing. Then, we'll discuss fun phrases to describe the weather. We'll discuss holidays in England and how British people celebrate Guy Fawkes Day but not Thanksgiving. Day Three: On the final day, we'll have a tea party! We'll talk about the different people we'll meet at the party, from mates to blokes, and then learn about British words for food. Did you know that chips are french fries and crisps are potato chips?

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Lucy. I teach sailing, basic flight theory, college prep, British English, and Jane Austen. I was born in Bath, England and moved to the U.S. after school. I have an M.B.A, a U.S. Coast Guard Master's license, a Private Pilot's license, and an FAA Ground instructor license. I've worked in hospitality and aircraft sales and taught as an adjunct professor at Lynn University. Now, I travel full time on my sailboat. I currently teach English as a second language and edit Waterway Guide books for the Chesapeake Bay and the Bahamas. I want my students to feel comfortable taking risks in their learning and being rewarded for it. It's OK to make mistakes! My favorite thing to do is curl up with a good book!
