An engaging & empowering class that helps kids build resilience by boosting their ability to make and maintain quality friendships, and be prepared to handle challenging social interactions, as well as accept support during stressful times.
Kids who have strong, connected relationships are more resilient because they have a support system to lean on during challenging times! How confident does your child feel about making quality friendships? What about handling those tricky social interactions? In this engaging class, students will learn what makes for healthy, happy, and meaningful relationships with friends and family. They will identify qualities found in healthy relationships, as well as friendship deal-breakers. Students...
Students will learn to: 1. Notice qualities of healthy relationships, such as trust, kindness, & forgiveness 2. Practice using a tool for greater self-awareness 3. Understand the common motives behind unkind behavior (tricky social interactions) and how to address it in a constructive way 4. Discover their own "speak-up style" 5. Identify who is in their support network & how to ask them for help
I believe resilience is a critical trait for anyone working toward being the best they can be, and it is something that can be strengthened like a muscle. I am personally committed to helping build resilient kids, and ultimately resilient families, in my own community and beyond. I have a background as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. However, most of my work has been as a Resiliency Skills Trainer with a program out of UCLA Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior. In that position, I taught several skill-building workshops with groups of kids (ages 3-13) and adults. I also worked with families individually. I taught the skills of emotion regulation (including healthy thinking styles), communication, goal setting, and problem-solving. I am excited to bring my background and personal style to Outschool so I can help you accomplish your goals. My approach to teaching resiliency skills with kids is especially unique because I focus on connecting with each child in a way that creates a FUN and ENGAGING learning environment! I can't wait to meet your child and begin learning together!
2 files available upon enrollmentPDF's will be provided. To find them, click on the "Classroom" tab and scroll down the page. The link is in blue writing. Please print them in advance and have a pen ready to write with. If printing is not an option, a blank piece of paper to write on is fine.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I encourage parents to listen in to the lessons or ask your child about what s/he learned so that the skills can be applied as a family for maximum benefit. Because this is a skill-building class, it is not a substitute for individual, group, or family therapy. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like further guidance with the material.
