Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
Hi! Welcome to my class.

During this class, students will learn how to read effectively by using three basic principles. We will discuss the three main topics/principles, in the following order:

1. Letter Identification: This will first take place through discussion and visual learning, using Flashcards
(with images) from A-Z to help students identify each letter. Secondly, an audiovisual presentation of the "Phonics Song"(Students will be encouraged to sing along.) These are designed to help students learn the sounds of the letters in the English alphabet and reinforce comprehension.

2. Blending and Segmenting: Students will learn how to blend & segment words in two ways.
#1. Using the whiteboard to illustrate how to sound out letters phonemically to effectively Blend/Segment into a word.
#2. A Multisensory activity. This activity will require three different color pieces of strings tied together (to represent 3 letter words). Students will practice using the strings to help them get a sense of what it means to blend sounds together, by saying each sound as their fingers pull on each string. This multisensory tool is an excellent representation of what students should be doing with each sound, it will also give them a visual understanding of how words are blended and segmented.

3. Word Recognition: I will use one of my favorite Pre-k reading books: (Murray's First Book of Words) as a fun learning activity to expand students' vocabulary and familiarity using word recognition. From this "Book of Words", Students will read and identify common words similar to their environment outdoors & around the Famous Sesame Street. In addition, they will be taught an array of Sight Words by identifying other things.

Lastly, to end class, students will learn the meaning of a very BIG WORD- to check for engagement and encourage interaction amongst each other.

**In the materials section below, you can find everything that you will need for this class.**
