Reading for the Struggling Reader
In this 4-week program, students meet with me twice a week for 50 minutes each session where the group maximum is five students. This class is for students in grades 2 - 4 who are struggling readers.

US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
In this class, students will be taught foundational reading skills that are intended to grow their reading ability and prepare them for the upcoming school year. There will be a combination of direct teaching by the teacher, student and teacher engagement, and student independent practice. A variety of tools will be utilized such as fluency passages, short engaging videos, games, and informal assessments.
Learning Goals
Each student will show growth in their reading that will be measured in the beginning of the class and at the end of the class.

Establish Baseline Skills, Fluency Practice, Spelling Patterns, and Sight Words
Conduct individual reading assessments, practice fluency, practice short vowel spelling patterns, and practice sight words.

Fluency Practice, Spelling Patterns, and Sight Words
Review prior learning. Partner reading with repeated short passage, practice CVC pattern words, and practice new sight words.

Review prior learning. Choral reading with repeated short passage, practice initial and final blend pattern words, and practice new sight words.

Review prior learning. Echo reading with repeated short passage, practice common digraph pattern words, and practice new sight words.

Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have taught struggling readers for 13 years with a proven track-record of students making significant academic gains. My training consists of a Bachelor or Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Reading Endorsement that enables me to teach struggling readers in the public school system.
