Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 5
This class is intended to motivate and bring confidence to learners with their reading and comprehension skills.

In this class, students will read different books based on their interests. The parent should discuss with their learner well before the start of the class on what kind of topics they would like to read/learn about in order for me to find the appropriate books and for their level. Students will then start to read the book, along the way we will discuss what is happening and infer what might happen next. Once the book is complete we will have a discussion about the book to see what they have understood or learnt from it. We will then go through some comprehension questions based on the book. Depending on the time left we can either have some extension work on that book or start a new book.

The books will be short and can be read to allow time for the comprehension part of the lesson. Please let me know the current reading and writing level is of your learner. The student will be encouraged to write full length responses with correct punctuation, spelling and grammar.

My teaching style revolves around being patient with the learner while also finding ways for them to naturally strive to try their best within each session. Every student is different, so I plan my lessons accordingly. Once I have a better understanding on how they learn, I can adjust the lessons based on their needs.

The stories will be displayed on my screen for students to read.

The class does not have a weekly outline, as the book selection will be based on the students choice.

By the end of the sessions, students will improve on their reading, writing, comprehension, communication, listening, inferring, spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.

Please contact me after signing up to discuss the appropriate reading, comprehension and writing level of your learner.
