Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this one-time, 30-minute guided reading and writing class, students will learn how to actively engage with a short fiction passage through annotation, discussion, and written response. This class introduces key reading comprehension strategies that help students analyze texts more effectively while improving their writing skills.

**This class is a one-time entry session**, offered at a low price of $8, giving students the opportunity to experience my teaching style and learn essential reading comprehension and writing strategies (the same lesson repeats each week for this class). If students enjoy the lesson and want to continue developing their skills, they are encouraged to join my ongoing "Guided Reading, Annotating, & Writing" class, where new texts and skills are introduced each week to deepen comprehension and strengthen writing responses.

Topics covered:

-How to annotate a short passage for key ideas, important details, and deeper meaning.
-How to respond to a text with clear, structured writing.
-Techniques to improve comprehension and critical thinking through guided discussion and analysis.

Class structure:

-Introduction – Welcome and overview of the class objective and agenda.
-Guided Reading & Annotation – Read a short passage together while practicing annotation strategies.
-Discussion & Analysis – Engage in a class discussion about key ideas and elements used in the text.
-Writing Response – Students will write a brief response using structured guidance and support.

Teacher style & interaction:

This class is highly interactive, with a structured yet engaging approach. Students will annotate alongside the teacher, participate in discussion, and receive writing guidance in real time. The lesson is designed to build confidence in both reading and writing by providing clear strategies and step-by-step support.

I take a structured and supportive approach, ensuring students understand each step of the reading and writing process. My teaching style is engaging and encouraging, helping students build comprehension skills through guided practice and meaningful discussion. I provide constructive, individualized feedback to help students improve their reading responses.

Students will engage in class discussion, participate in annotation exercises, and receive real-time guidance on their written responses. I provide direct feedback throughout the lesson, and students can submit their work via Google Docs for additional personalized feedback after class.

Students must have a Google Drive account before class to access and submit their work.

Learning Goals
