Explore the amazing world of magnetism and how it affects all life on earth! (Homeschool / Afterschool)

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Students will learn about:
- Atoms and subatomic particles (protons, neutrons and electrons)
- The cause of magnetism on the atomic level (electron spin)
- The Earth's magnetic field, how compasses work, animals that use the magnetic field to navigate
- Permanent magnets
- Electromagnets
- How electric motors work
- How maglev (magnetic levitation) devices work
We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
Learner progress will be assessed through class participation and a fun, humorous end-of-class quiz.
Grades Offered
 1 file available upon enrollment
Optional: In order to participate in the hands-on exploration portions of the class, please bring any magnets (fridge magnets, etc), other small objects to test whether they are magnetic, and if available, a ruler and a compass.
