-Journey through the solar system and beyond as we study the universe and everything in it! We will encounter planets, stars, comets and asteroids. Prepare to ponder long distances, extraordinary lengths of time and huge sizes as we take a closer look at space, both near and far. -The class structure for the class will involve a presentation accompanied printable notes, lap books, or foldables, followed by a hands on project or craft related to that topic. Week 1- The Earth and Moon System: The Sun, Moon and Earth have a unique relationship. Project: We will make a model that replicates the orbit of the Sun, Moon and Earth. Week 2-The Terrestrial Planets: The four planets closets to the sun Project: Make rice krispy planets out of marshmallows, rice krisp cereal and food coloring. Week 3- The Gas and Ice Giants: Planets in the outer part of the Project: Make slime sun catchers using glue, borax and food coloring. Week 4- Dwarfs Planets, Asteroids and Comets: Discuss some of the smaller players in outer space. Project: Use air dry clay, wire, a cardboard box and a flashlight to make a model of the various asteroid belts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University
During my time working in Montessori schools I was given the opportunity to design and implement a summer camp program that integrated scientific and cultural exploration with hands-on projects. It was a joy to teach and assist my students as they conquered these previously uncharted territories and I am only too happy to replicate that adventure here on Outschool. I have taken various college level physical science courses including Astronomy.
