Class Experience

Please email me if you are seeking a time slot that is not listed on the schedule.

This is a customized three course series of one-on-one (or doubles for siblings that want to study together) private vocal lessons tailored to the student's goals, such as preparing for an upcoming recital or audition, refining public speaking skills, ear training, cultivating confidence and poise, and so on.

I will start with a brief assessment of their pitch accuracy, tone clarity, phrasing, and rhythm. Then I will support them in identifying their goals, setting up a plan for fulfilling those goals, and singing during and in between each session. No prior music knowledge is necessary.

My teaching style is supportive, constructive, rigorous, and fun. I created a safe space for students to express themselves and experience the power and beauty of their voices.

Hello students and parents!

My name is Onome, pronounced like "On a May afternoon." I am an educator with a background in voice, creative writing, and social-emotional development. I have been performing and teaching for 20 years. I am a partner artist at Carnegie Hall as a core member of the vocal improvisation ensemble, Moving Star.

I lead educational enrichment programs in New York City schools for students in grades k-12, and adults. My specialties are vocal music (theory, improvisation, songwriting), oratory, creative writing, social-emotional development, mindfulness practices, and interpersonal / relational skills. I conduct parent workshops, family seminars, and professional development trainings. I facilitated trainings at Columbia University-Teacher's College to empower teachers to incorporate arts enrichment into their classroom practice. I received my MFA in Performance Studies at Pratt Institute in 2018.

The values that inform my teaching are courage, joy, creativity and connection. I love to design experiences that inspire students to deepen their listening, critical thinking, and empathy. I look forward to seeing you in class.
