1-2 hours per week. Practicing is important. Goals should be aimed for, not minutes played when practicing.

Assessment

I give positive help and encouragement, and I give virtual stickers when a student has learned a piece to a given standard (the best he/ she can).

Class Experience

This class covers the basics of clarinet playing using the book, Essential Elements 2000 for Bb Clarinet, available from Amazon.  It is used by many band directors.  I find out where the student is, what they know, and we work from there.  We also work on individual scales, chords, solos and improvising as appropriate.  

Proper positioning, embouchure, tone and standard (and some alternate) fingerings are covered.
Some memory work is involved, but it is optional.  

Skill levels of players vary and no knowledge is needed to start this class, but if you are playing already, we can work from there!
I work with students who need help with band and orchestra music or solo and ensemble music, audition coaching, and everyday private lessons!

Hi!  I have been a professional musician for many years, primarily working as an accompanist for school choruses and bands and church choirs.   I hope you will be my next student!  

If you want to take piano or clarinet lessons, please sign up for ANY section. I will teach you at your level. 

I have been a music teacher (piano, general music, clarinet, composition and theory), a language teacher (ESL and foreign language classes) and a math tutor in public schools and private schools in GA, FL and NY.  

I am a member of the Rochester Piano Teachers Guild.  

I studied music at Florida State University and the Eastman School of Music.  I have been a professional musician my entire working life, primarily as an accompanist for churches, schools and theaters.  I have also accompanied vocal and ballet studios.  

I believe music is a natural part of being a human, and I treat is as a fun, relaxing way to enjoy life.

 I meet people where they are in their musical journey.  I build on what they already know.  I have ADHD. I try to make my classes friendly for neurodivergent learners. 

I have a little dog 🐕 , and we love to go on long walks together in nature!
