Learning to read notes can be a challenge! Using the text, Sightsinging: The Complete Method for Singers, we will cover Chapters 1-3 of our book. We work on learning to read music, note by note, and interval by interval while singing. Counting is a skill singers need and we will work on that as well. Listening skills are also practiced here. (Ear training) Solfege is introduced and referenced, but this class also uses numbers and note names for sight reading. We come at note reading from many angles! This is a class where being silent is not an option if the class has only one student, otherwise, you may listen in and not sing. Book purchase required. NOTE: This is a holistic approach, so teaching will be mostly done via singing while reading. We will work from the beginning of the book, and after four weeks, a new round of this class will open, and we will continue on in the book. The next class, Singers Can Read Music | Chapters 4-5 will review Chapters 1-3, reinforce and then add the new chapters at the appropriate time. If students need more time, we will move according. Because repetition is the foundations for good language learning, and music is a language, we will be repeating basics regularly.
Learning Goals
Student will begin learning to read notes. Note reading, even in the best of circumstances, does not come quickly. This is the reason I teach this as a drop in class on a weekly basis. Keep coming back and it will get easier!
