Pigeon is a loved character who often makes appearances in Elephant and Piggie books. In this story we learn that even though something may seem scary or not enjoyable, if we give it a try, we just might love it! We will start the class with a greeting and then I will read the story The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Williams. I will stop throughout the story to check for understanding, ask engaging questions, and give each child a chance to participate in discussion. If your child owns a copy of The Pigeon Needs a Bath they are encouraged to bring it and follow along! After the story each child will have the opportunity to share with the class their favorite part of the book and explain why. We will then create a drawing of Pigeon from the story. This art project will be given step by step and is perfect for beginning level artists. Once we are finished creating our picture, your child will be encouraged to add details, use many colors to finish the project and share their final result with the class.
Learning Goals
Students will practice listening skills and have the opportunity to answer thought provoking, open ended questions throughout the story. Children will also practice discussion skills while taking turns engaging in conversation about Pigeon.
Each child will practice fine motor skills and following directions while working on a step by step art project.
