40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
If you love to draw, this is the class for you! No experience necessary. Each week we will have a new subject to study. Some drawings will be cartoon style and some more realistic. This is an on going class so you can come and go as you please. Each lesson is a stand alone class and does not follow on from previous classes. All you require to take this class is paper, a pencil, an eraser and colors if you choose ( these can be pencils, markers, watercolors or pastels). Every class will begin with a guided draw. We will all create together and you will follow me step by step. You will be able to see exactly what I am doing with the use of an overhead document camera. I will describe techniques and give advice as I draw. The second part of our class is over to you. How will you personalize your drawing? What colors will you choose? What background will you draw? What extras will you add? I will give plenty of suggestions but ultimately it is up to each artist to make their own decisions. It is magical moment at the end of class we see just how different our drawings are. Each child will have a chance to be in the spotlight and share their work if they choose to. I promote positive comments and encouragement from fellow classmates. Artists are free to continue with their drawings after class if they wish to and post finished work to the classroom page. This class is designed to be relaxed and informal. Social discussion and chat is encouraged in the second half of the class once the guided draw is complete. Cameras are encouraged to remain on during the class to enable feedback. 12/6 week one: Chameleon 12/13 week two: The Bee 12/20 week three: Snowman No classes 12/23 - 12/30 Christmas week 1/3 week four: Cake 1/10 week five: The Truck 1/17week six: Fish 1/24 week seven: Chicken 1/31 week eight: Frog

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University Of Plymouth
Hello! My name is Katie Chad and I live in Texas. I received my Bachelor in Education with an Art and Design specialism and Qualified Teacher Status from Plymouth University in England. I have taught elementary education in Europe, The Middle East and North America.
My passion is creativity! Can I find a creative way to teach math? Is there a way I can spark excitement with poetry? Can we write a nail biting opening for a story? I love to explore new ideas and new techniques.
I love sculpture, whether I am using clay, fabric, paints, paper or recycled materials. I believe that art is a form of self discovery and exploration that is accessible to everyone whatever their experience.
My aim is to provide my students with techniques and ideas as a starting point for their own artistic discoveries. To provide encouragement and enthusiasm and the knowledge that there is no wrong answer, even happy accidents can result in fantastic creations!
Truth be told, I wish I’d been educated at Hogwarts. I have loved reading the books with my own children. We have thrown several elaborate Harry Potter parties at our house. I have been known to dress up as several of the characters including Professor McGonagall, Trelawney, Dobby and even Hagrid! We’ve made Marauder’s maps, wands, tiny potion jewelry and our own Mandrakes.
I am so excited to meet and create with your students on Outschool.
