Assessment
Instructor will continuously assess student need and plan future classes to meet those individual needs.Class Experience
Beginner - Advanced Level
***For ages 5-18!**** In this on-going class, students will receive 1 on 1 reading instruction based on their reading needs. Students will read part of a short book at the student's instructional reading level. The student and teacher will work on specific skills. This class is perfect for students who: +are slightly behind in reading, +hate reading, +love reading and want to read with someone who loves reading too, +not challenged in their classroom reading program, or +students who need to complete a reading log. Let me help your student meet their reading goals! Want to have class more than one day a week? You can subscribe to as many reading classes as you need a week. Does your learner need help with specific reading goals? Email me and I will tailor their class to those goals. Does your learner have specific interests (sports, dinosaurs, cooking, mythology)? Email me and I will try to tailor their class to those goals. In each lesson, students will work on some of the following skills: +fluency, +prosody, +vocabulary, +reading comprehension, +decoding, +building background knowledge, +creating connections, +summarizing, +inferencing, +fiction reading skills, +non-fiction reading skills and +author's purpose. But more than anything else, we will work on developing a love of reading! (Please note: This class is not designed for students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia or a specific reading disability. Please see my class Reading and Spelling Instruction for Dyslexic Learners. Reading and Spelling Instruction for Dyslexic Learners is designed to meet the needs of learners with diagnosed reading needs.)

+Compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference between first- and third-person narrations.
+Make connections between the text of a story
+Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g., opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g., the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures.
