Come learn about the Greek gods and demigods in the world of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This book does an incredible job of mixing action, adventure, family, fantasy, and Greek mythology together. This is the perfect time to start reading the first book since the Disney Channel will start streaming the series based off the books on December 20th. We will learn about Percy Jackson and the fictional world of the Greek gods. During the class we will discuss the characters, events, and settings of the current chapters. We will talk about our favorite parts and discuss everything we learned about this fantastical world. We will look at each character in detail, discussing their different sides and how they change or stay the same throughout the book. At the end of each class students will be given optional activities that they may complete to build upon what they read in the chapters. After the 8 weeks we will take a short break and then start a book club for Book 2 for those students who would like to continue. For this class students will need to purchase Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (The 1st book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series) Students who are not able to read the books by themselves can have someone help them.
