This is an ongoing class. Students will sketch an animal or creature of lore every week. Each class will follow the step-by-step process: 1. They will concentrate on rendering the basic shapes of the creature, then proceed to discover the various relationships between the lines, shapes and proportions of the image. 2. They will learn to use a mixture of loose hatching and cross-hatching techniques to apply texture for fur, hair, feathers or scales. 3. They will modify the dark tones of the image by both strengthening and blending them with carefully graduated shading. 4. The final step will be to unify the form, tones and texture of the image by deepening the shadows and increasing their contrast.
