In this three-week class students will have the time and the support to create an original character by drawing the character, writing about the character, and performing as the character. Class #1: Brainstorming and Drawing! During this first class we will take some time to get to know one another and become comfortable. We will then brainstorm possible characteristics of the characters learners are about to create. Once everyone feels ready, students will have class time to draw the characters. Any level of art expertise is FINE! This is not an art class--this is a creating class! Students can make their drawings as simple or as elaborate as they choose and will have an opportunity to share the final product with the class. Students can work on their artwork outside of class but it is not required. There should be sufficient time in class. Note: Please bring paper and pencils, crayons, etc. of choice for drawing Class #2: Writing Monologues! During the second class, students will learn what a monologue is, I will share monologue examples, and we will brainstorm together possible monologue ideas for the characters they drew during the first class. They will have the majority of the class time to write their monologues under my supervision/with my help (if needed). Students will also receive video instruction on how to perform as a character. Class #3: Performing Monologues! During the third class, students will perform their monologues as their original characters for the class. They may use costumes and props if they would like!
