Greetings!

In my writing courses, students will develop skills in producing clear, effective, and engaging narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive essays. Courses will cover traits of effective writing, including sentence fluency, conventions, and organization by exploring building blocks such as word choice, sentence structure, parallel structure, and thesis statements. Students will receive feedback on assignments.

In my interactive history re-enactment classes, students will be transported to historical social justice organizational meetings and "interact" with Civil Rights icons such as Fannie Lou Hamer, Ida B. Wells, and Ella Baker. Students will review historical events that led to organizing by reviewing digitized artifacts, news articles, organizational publications, logos, meeting agendas, speeches, and excerpts from recordings.

Hands-on learning classes will include "learn by doing" exercises, including playing math games, building, and crafting. Ongoing social classes will include ice-breakers, interactive games, and lots of chatting to allow middle and high school students to get comfortable in their skin interacting with others.

I'm a published writer and freelance editor. I worked as a news reporter for several years. I have a Bachelor's degree in history. As a former essay reviewer for Pearson, I've scored hundreds of ACT essays as well as middle school standardized test essays. I've also taught ESL online for five years. I'm a homeschooling mama who enjoys listening to music, singing loudly, hiking, laughing with friends and family, and getting to read, hear, tell, and live a great story!
