Novel: Inside Out & Back Again

Join us as we read the award winning novel "Inside Out & Back Again" by Thanhha Lai.  The novel is based on the author's experience migrating to America during the Vietnam War.  This book follows a year in the life of a young girl has she sees her world drastically change.  The format of the book is written in journal entries, so it is a relatively quick read.  Students will read the designated chapters each week, interact on the class page through engaging questions during the week, and then discuss the novel together during our weekly meetings.  We will touch on skills such as making connections (to ourselves and to the world around us) to what we read, drawing conclusions, using vocabulary strategies like context clues.  We will also learn and talk about background information for the time period and setting.  Students will have opportunities to reflect and share their thoughts on what they read through a variety of learning styles, complete engaging activities about the reading, and share the joy of reading of another world with peers.
