What's included
1 live meeting
35 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Students will choose subjects to speak about in the next class, may be asked to find a simple prop or costume if they would like, will be asked to review their favorite book in order to summarize it in a speech, draw a picture as another form of self-expression and storytelling, and decide on a How-To skill they can teach the class (like brushing teeth, baking something, or washing hands).Assessment
It will be assessed in class by their progress with public speaking.Class Experience
Students are constantly exposed to speaking..I will share a story, or a short clip followed by students' expressing observations and favorite parts, and are given an opportunity to share their own favorite book or toy. Students become comfortable enough to share the things they love, and then begin to structure their shares in a confident or organized manner. Endless forms of speaking will be explored: How-To speeches, Make Believe Speeches, Informative Speeches, and even Debate! If students are shy, have speech impediments of any kind, I encourage them to try the class. I work hard to provide an environment that encourages comfort and, once they feel ready, a willingness to participate.
Learning Goals
Speaking confidently, Using words as an outlet, learning healthy and unhealthy outlets, discovering emotions behind various forms of storytelling (dance, singing, writing), exercises to prepare for public speaking, patience and courtesy when someone is speech-giving, and ease in self-expression.

California Teaching Certificate
I focus on social emotional learning for elementary aged students in Speech, Dance, and Life Skills classes.
I hold a BA in Speech and am a certified social emotional and character development educator. I am a recipient of the Forensic Academic Achievement Award and Scholarship for achievements in both academics and debate and dramatic Interpretation.
I believe understanding and managing emotions, finding healthy outlets and honoring one's uniqueness are the keys to healthy living. To me, emotional health outweighs anything we can learn in school, but with it, we can achieve greater success in academics, the workplace and in life!
I love to travel the world, dance, and take road trips with my dog, Oscar.
