Students will be introduced to the mindset of being wise with money. Through thought provoking questions and discussion, we will explore the ideas of budgeting, income, expenses, giving and savings. Kids at this age usually have limited funds, so learning to be wise is very important. We will discuss some of the ways they have an income (ie, gifts, allowance, odd jobs, etc.) and some things they spend money on. Students will also be introduced to the “Piggy Bank” method of budgeting. This class is not designed to be fully comprehensive. It is an introduction to budgeting and money management mindset. Students will receive further discussion questions to have with their parent(s), as well as guidance on starting their own Piggy Banks.
Learning Goals
Students will understand some of the basics of budgeting and money management. They will also continue the conversation with their parent(s) to be in alignment with their family’s values.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a varied background of teaching children in multiple settings. From life skills and stories to preschoolers, to music for all ages, to homeschooling and entrepreneurship. I am a life long learner who loves to see “the light go on” for my students. I have a 10 year old daughter, who I love exploring with. We go on bike rides, car and camping trips, and visit as many places as we can, such as science centers, museums, and landmarks.
I am an experienced music and piano teacher. Both private and group lessons have given me the experience to lead students on their journey of music learning and enjoyment. I truly believe that learning music on a continual basis will help students develop a “failing forward” mindset. Playing music also has the incredible benefits for one’s brain development and stress reduction.
I have homeschooled my daughter since Kindergarten, and we have covered many topics and techniques throughout that journey. My previous experience teaching and story telling in a religious environment have informed my teaching and direction for her learning journey. My desire is for all kids to be equipped with the necessary skills to adapt to our ever changing world.
I have owned multiple businesses, and learned through life experience how to be wise with money. I believe certain mindsets and skills should be taught at a young age, and throughout a student’s informative years, to best enable them for future success. My own daughter has applied these concepts to earn her own money. My personal experience involves starting businesses, bankruptcy, and debt free living.
Teaching ESL classes online, and running a day home, have helped round out my teaching experiences. I am experienced with engaging kids at young ages; teaching them life skills and early learning. ESL classes have taught me how to break down English to manageable sections, that I’ve also applied in my day home.
