Class Experience

Week 1: Thinking about Thinking and How to Map the Mind
This week, students will get an insight into how the brain functions. Students will learn what are mind maps and how they improve thinking and analytical skills and decision making. Students will get to know the history of mind maps and how from ancient times, great philosophers and thinkers have been using mind maps for the graphic recording of thoughts, concepts and knowledge for the purposes of analysis, study and memorization. Students will learn to read mind maps and the techniques of creating mind maps step-by-step.
The students move on to learning activities.
Reading Mind Maps – With the help of a mind map, students learn how to easily learn concepts and recall information within a short time.
Brainstorm – Students discuss a concept and the teacher builds a mind map.
Assignment - Pick a topic and we will mind map it.

Week 2: Mind Maps at Work and Making Mind Maps for Better Results

This week, students will learn how to use mind maps to brainstorm new ideas, make decisions, plan and prioritize, solve problems, take notes while listening, make notes while reading texts, prepare and present information. Students will create several mind maps to enable them to practice mind mapping skills. At the end of the course, they get to work on their own mind mapping project in which they brainstorm new ideas, plan a project and create their own mind maps.

Students move on to learning activities.

Hello, I am Juanita Foster. I am a mother, mom-mom, and best Auntie in the world. Over the past 30 years, I have been a mentor, tutor, trainer, and coach. My teaching career started when I was in high school, as a childcare worker. There is where I found my love for not just teacher, but learning as well. Over the years, I have taught students aged from birth to adult.
My education includes a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, Masters in Organizational Leadership, Bachelors' in Business Management, certifications in Nursing, and Human Resources.
What brings me the most joy is encouraging, empowering and elevating the learners’ knowledge. This will enable them to reach their full potential. For my students, I teach the way they learn! My teaching style uses the different ways students learn, along with humor, that meets the student's educational needs as well as their social and emotional needs as well.
In order to be the best teacher for your student, I know that I must be a life learner as well. I currently attend college studying Early Childhood Education.
Why Me?
As a project and process management with over ten years of experience, I see the need to equip students with tools like this to help them excel in school, and eventually in the working world.
Students create their own mind maps for a class presentation, homework topic or essay.
I will offer the ability to download my PowerPoint presentation, and will also have a handout for students to keep in PDF form that will include links and other resources on this topic outside of the class learning opportunities.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
