Middle School Geometry: Transforming Shapes and Parallel Lines

"Transformations and parallel lines cut by a transversal" are a common geometry introduction topics taught in middle school.  This class will first familiarize students with coordinate planes and order pairs as a foundation.  Then, the class will discuss the patterns and formulas associated with four types of transformations:  translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation.  The class will finish with instruction on the types of angles formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal: corresponding, vertical, alternate interior, alternate exterior, supplementary, etc.

Week 1: Introduction of coordinate plane and Translation 
Week 2: Reflection and Rotation 
Week 3 : Dilation and Intro of parallel lines cut by a traversal and angles
Week 4:  Finding the measure of angles using equations and Review

The class time starts with instruction and demonstration.  It then shifts to a lot of time for the students to work with the teacher and ends with students solving problems independently.
