Beginner Level
Experimentation is the heart and soul of science. It's what drives us to discover new things, push the boundaries of our understanding, and uncover the mysteries of the universe. And in my Outschool ongoing middle school science class, scientific experimentation is front and center. With a focus on hands-on learning, students get to roll up their sleeves and dive into all kinds of exciting experiments - from testing chemical reactions to exploring sound waves to dissecting frogs (yes, really!). Each week brings a new adventure in discovery as they use critical thinking skills and scientific methods to hypothesize, test, analyze and draw conclusions about how different phenomena work. Whether they're measuring pH levels or building rockets from scratch, these young scientists are gaining invaluable experience that will set them up for success both in future science classes and beyond.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to set up an experiment using the scientific method and learn the science principles behind the experiment.

Parental Guidance
This class does involve scientific experimentation and parental support should be provided. The chemicals being used in the class are household chemicals that pose little risk to students but parent should be supervising their student during the class. Hot plates or a stove will be needed for some experiments and parent should guide the student in its operation.
