Please join me for a magical math adventure. In this one-time class, students will explore early math concepts mermaid style. This class is engaging and interactive. Students are more than welcome to come dressed up as a mermaid. Students will practice counting up to 10 items using a ten frame, writing numbers 0-10, and building basic shapes all with a little bit of mermaid magic. We will begin the class with introductions. Ten Frame SeaShell Counting Students will be introduced to a ten frame. Students will be provided with a ten frame handout prior to class. Please have this printed. A sheet protector will allow your child use it again and again. We will count the 10 boxes together. Students will be guided to use seashells to fill up the spaces on the ten frame. Students will build numbers on their ten frames using seashells while the teacher also builds the number as a visual aid. Number Writing in Sand Tray Sand tray writing is a very engaging and fun activity for kiddos. It also helps further fine motor skill development. The teacher will show numbers using colorful flash cards. We will talk about the numbers. Students will practice writing the numbers in the air to promote movement and in the sand tray. The students will learn short and simple number chants to help them remember how to write each number. Please prepare a container, shallow box, or tray with sand before class. Salt, powdered jello, or powdered pudding also work well. Ocean Play doh Shapes We will talk about basic shapes (circle, square, rectangle, and triangle). We will discuss the number of sides of each shape. Students will use play doh to create different shapes. The teacher will guide the students in making the shapes. The teacher will provide an ocean play doh mat prior to class. It is not required, but will make the activity more fun if you choose to print it out. I cannot wait to dive into this interactive mermaid math adventure with your littles.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Emily. I have been married for 7 years. We have two precious boys. I have had a passion for teaching since I was a little girl. I was the kid that lined up her dolls and gave them homework.
I received my B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Gordon College in 2012. I received my M.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College in 2015. I have 7 years of formal classroom experience. I spent 1 year teaching in Pre-K and I taught Kindergarten for 6 years. I am currently an online ESL teacher to students across the world.
My number one goal is for my students to leave my classroom feeling more enriched than when they entered. I believe learning should be relevant and fun. I am a huge believer in play-based learning. I believe hands-on learning sparks creativity and enriches the imagination. I have a passion for teaching beginner math and literacy skills. I enjoy teaching around themes that are interesting and make students excited about learning.
I offer a wide variety of classes. My classes will teach and enhance beginner math and literacy skills, while also sparking the imagination through intentional play. I love to incorporate crafts, songs, movement, and even edible "crafts" to make learning more concrete. My classroom will always be inviting, interactive, and engaging. I am so excited to meet your child. I cannot wait to be apart of your child's educational journey!
Let's learn and have fun together.
