This is an ongoing course that uses play as a tool for learning. We will use story to help us practice core math skills. The intentions of this class is to introduce math to learners in a way that is playful and fun. Class begins by deciding the setting of our story. We will tell a story numbering items along the way. we will focus on numbers 1-10 for this class. Our goal is to create a story matching our numbers with quantities. The teacher will use the whiteboard feature on zoom, as a learning tool for the class, briefly showing how to write numbers and draw simple shapes. Learners who are not ready to write are encouraged to bring their choice of counting material.

Hi my name is Haley. I love to teach playful classes that inspire storytelling, problem solving, and connection. My teaching practice has been influenced by the Social Constructivist and Reggio Emilia approach to learning. In Reggio Emilia, “the image of a child is viewed as strong, capable, competent, and full of potential.” For the social constructivist perspective I refer to Vygotsky's quote, “It is through others that we develop into ourselves." In my practice this means creating a SAFE, INCLUSIVE, KIND, and PLAYFUL environment for all. Creating a space that supports learner AGENCY is top priority. Learners are seen as co-creators of their play, and the role of the teacher is to facilitate conversation and highlight learning opportunities. Keeping the "Whole Child" in mind, my goal is to support the academic, physical, cognitive, and social emotional needs of all learners.
