1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn to add 2-digit numbers using place value to help them solve problems. Students will also draw pictures to help them understand what is happening to the numbers as the ones place is bundled and moved to the tens place group. Students will be able to see digital base ten blocks and learn how to draw the base ten blocks to solve their own problems. Tools such as base ten blocks, help students grasp with a picture what the numbers are doing in a math problem instead of only looking at abstract numbers. Students learn best when they use concrete tools and then represent these tools in their own mathwork as pictures. We will begin with a short review of adding 2-digit numbers without regrouping. We will discuss the ones and tens place and how it relates to adding. I will model how to solve a problem and then we will do several addition problems together. Students will have time to try problems on their own.
Learning Goals
Students will improve on their understanding of how to add 2-digit numbers using place value. They will be able to represent the base ten blocks by drawing pictures as they add the numbers to solve the problem.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I teach math, writing, and English as a second language. I teach these subjects because each one is a passion and close to my heart. It may seem that these subjects are on a different spectrum but I enjoy them equally. I love writing because I love the creativity and the use of my imagination. I love math because I struggled with math when I was younger. I think that we all have to find the strategies that best help us understand and make us successful, then we can succeed. I love teaching English to beginners because it is so fun! We will learn in class but we will also have fun! Learning must be engaging. That is how we all best learn, when we are engaged! I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education with a specialization in math. I am ESL certified and gifted certified. I have been teaching for 11 years. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I currently teach 3rd grade. I have taught ESL in a brick and mortar school as well as virtually for 3 years. I learn just as much from my students as they do from me. Learning is a two way street. I use the scaffolding approach: First, I model. Then we work together. I guide the student as the student tries on their own. As the student builds confidence and skill, I do less and less guidance until the students has mastered the skill. Something fun about me: I LOVE Disney World! It truly is a magical place. I have a dog named Siri (I named her Siri before Apple's iphone) -Just FYI!
