In this one-time class students will learn a multisensory approach to adding and subtracting double-digit numbers without regrouping. By engaging all the senses (see, hear, say, touch) students easily make the connection between the numeral and the quantity it represents. We will start the class by learning/reviewing the Count/Touch patterns on numerals 1-9. Next, we will use this strategy to practice solving double-digit addition and subtraction problems together. Finally, we will end the class by reading addition and subtraction stories, discussing vocabulary to help select the correct operation, and then solving the word problem. This double-digit addition and subtraction class is perfect for visual learners, children with Autism & other learning disabilities, or students who struggle retaining addition and subtraction facts and selecting the correct operation to solve word problems.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their number sense and computation skills by learning a multisensory math method that eliminates guessing and helps develop math comprehension and memorization.

Hello!
I am currently a Special Education teacher at an elementary school, and I have been teaching for ten years now. I have a Master's degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I specialize in providing targeted small group reading and math classes for students with learning disabilities (such as Dyslexia) and attention deficits (such as ADHD).
My educational philosophy is that every child learns differently and at a different pace and that's Ok. I make my lessons engaging, fast-paced, and multi-sensory. A lot of the strategies and tools I teach are beneficial for ALL learners regardless of their ability level. I want every student to feel successful in my classes and have fun!
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling, hiking, playing volleyball, and my new hobby is learning to play the guitar. I am so excited to have the opportunity to help your child learn and grow. I can't wait to meet you!
