Class Experience

This class will have young learners practicing basic math concepts using items from the home.
Class will begin with a greeting, a quick introduction to the concept, and then time for children to practice independently or as a group to truly grasp the concept. I love for math to be hands on, so we often use materials to count, sort, add, etc. Learning should be fun, so I incorporate games, movement and learner participation. This class is great for those with emerging math skill! It may introduce new math concepts, or strengthen their confidence with ones they know. Learners may be working on different skills, there are opportunities to extend the activity such as using larger numbers, writing numbers and equations, etc.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I am Ms. Marie, a lover of learning, playing and creating! I have been doing these things all of my life, and been sharing them with learners of all ages for 13 years!

I have been a "teacher" all of my life (babysitter, camp counselor, resident assistant, Peace Corps volunteer), but formally, I have been teaching since 2009. Much of my experience comes from teaching 3, and 4-year old children in a private preschool, and I have taught 1st and 2nd grade.

My strength as a teacher comes from teacher my ability to follow the interest of my learners and to create meaningful, play-based learning experiences in my classes. My classes incorporate literacy, numeracy, science and social studies in hands on ways so that learners can explore, create and engage with materials and each other. Whether a journaling class, a preschool class or a games camp, I have a ton of energy and loads of enthusiasm! I look forward to meeting you in my classroom!
