In this course we will be combining engineering and food material science to create vehicles for our "test pilot" Eggbert to try out. (Yes, you guessed ut, he is an egg) Each challenge will last two weeks with the following schedule for the course: Challenge 1; Elastically Driven Car Day 1: Food Material Science lecture Topic: Introduction to Food Material Sciences and Structural Food Materials Day 2: Engineering lecture Topic: Potential and Kinetic Energy, Elasticity, Weight Distribution Day 3: Design and Build On this day we will discuss design and start our build Day 4: Finish Build, Test, Analysis On this day we will make any last minute changes or finishing details, test the vehicle, and perform an after action analysis of our design Challenge 2; Sailboat Day 5: Food Material Science lecture Topic: Hydrophobic vs Hydrophilic materials Day 6: Engineering lecture Topic: Buoyancy and Wind Generated Power Day 7: Design and Build On this day we will discuss design and start our build Day 8: Finish Build, Test, Analysis On this day we will make any last minute changes or finishing details, test the vehicle, and perform an after action analysis of our design Challenge 3; Stomp Rocket Day 9: Food Material Science lecture Topic: Squishy vs. Break-away Food Material Day 10: Engineering lecture Topic: Overcoming Forces...and What are "Forces" anyways? Day 11: Design and Build On this day we will discuss design and start our build Day 12: Finish Build, Test, Analysis On this day we will make any last minute changes or finishing details, test the vehicle, and perform an after action analysis of our design

Parental Guidance
Learners may need to use a knife to create their projects. Safety briefings will be given on build days but gaurdians know their learner best and should supervise where needed.
Supply List
Each project will be based on food ingredients that we can find around the house or easily at your local grocery store. At the beginning of the course we will discuss some options, but each learner will be able to use ingredients available to them.
Language of Instruction
English
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! am a scientist and adventurer. I have a Masters degree in Animal Science with minors in Chemistry and Fish & Wildlife. I started my journey investigating sheep and goats, went on to study shrimp and zooplankton, and have many years of experience teaching STEM to students from preschool up to college.
The classes that I am currently teaching cover Food Science, Animal Science, Ichthyology, STEM experiments, and Women in STEM.
All my classes are anchored in exciting themes such as "Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse through STEM", "Interesting Animals from A to Z", and "Microscopic Adventures!". I generally have a short presentation which I try to keep 5-10 minutes long with the rest of the class time working with hands on learning. I create all my own high-quality material that your students will enjoy engaging with. My classroom is inclusive to all.
Interesting facts about myself:
1) I am an identical twin.
2) I have studied seabirds in Antarctica.
