US Grade 5 - 8
In this writing class, learners will be guided through the writing process from brainstorming to the finished product. Class time will be spent introducing the prompt for the week, discussing ideas, and modeling ways to organize thoughts and get them down on paper. Each week will focus on a different mode of writing but the topics will be learner-led. I have found that it is much more enjoyable and effective to write about topics of interest. The class will be a safe place to trouble-shoot ideas and discuss how to mold those topics into essays. I will provide the learners with a prompt, revision checklist, and rubric. The essays will be started in class and completed as homework. Teacher feedback will be provided privately and learners will be encouraged and instructed on how to provide peers with constructive criticism. The modes for each week are as follows: WEEK ONE: Narrative WEEK TWO: Informational WEEK THREE: Persuasive WEEK FOUR: Descriptive
Learning Goals
The learners will improve their understanding of the different modes of writing by collaborating in class and independently bringing their essays to completion each week.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Special Education with a level 2 certificate as a Wilson Reading System instructor (a multi-sensory reading/phonics program). I taught second grade through eighth grade over the course of fifteen years in the public school system. Currently, I'm a homeschooling mother of three.
I have a passion for teaching Reading and Writing and trying to instill this passion in my students. I love the creative side of teaching and enjoy making my classes as interactive as possible.
If I am not teaching or spending time with my family, I can be found with my nose in a book or testing new allergy-friendly baking recipes!
I hope to see your learner in class soon!
