Class Experience: 8-Week Common Core Math Class for 3rd-5th Graders What will be taught? This 8-week course is designed to cover key Common Core math concepts for students in grades 3-5. Students will master fundamental skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, and data interpretation. The goal is to strengthen their foundational math abilities while preparing them for more advanced topics, like algebra. What topics will you cover? Throughout the course, we will dive deep into essential topics: Place value and rounding: Understanding the value of numbers and approximating them. Properties of addition and subtraction: Learning about the commutative, associative, and identity properties. Order of operations (PEMDAS): Solving problems step by step. Multiplication and division: Developing strategies for quick calculations and solving real-world problems. Fractions: Comparing, ordering, and performing operations with fractions, including those with unlike denominators. Measurement and data interpretation: Understanding units of measure and reading charts and graphs. How is your class structured? The class will meet four times a week for 45 minutes per session. Each week focuses on a specific set of skills, ensuring a smooth progression as students master one concept before moving on to the next. Classes will begin with a brief warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge, followed by a focused lesson on the day’s topic. After the lesson, students will engage in group practice, problem-solving, and interactive games. I’ll assign optional practice problems between sessions to reinforce skills and allow students to review at their own pace. How will you teach? My teaching approach is dynamic, using a variety of methods to engage students and cater to different learning styles: Interactive slides: Visual aids will be used to explain concepts and break down problems step by step. Live demonstrations: I will model how to solve math problems, encouraging students to participate and ask questions. Games and challenges: Fun math games and challenges will keep students engaged while reinforcing what they’ve learned. Discussion: Students will have opportunities to ask questions and participate in guided discussions to deepen their understanding of concepts. What’s your teaching style? I focus on creating a positive, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes. My goal is to make math approachable, breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand steps. I emphasize problem-solving and real-world application, so students can see how math relates to their everyday lives. Whether through lecture, collaborative activities, or practice, I work to ensure that each student builds math confidence and fluency. How much will learners get to interact with you? This course is highly interactive! Students will: Participate in live discussions where they can ask questions and share their thoughts. Play collaborative games to reinforce math concepts. Work together during group practice to solve problems in real time. Receive feedback and guidance during lessons and optional assignments. I am always available for questions during class, and students are encouraged to participate actively throughout each session. This class provides a comprehensive, engaging experience that helps students build essential math skills while preparing for future success in higher-level math. My approach is hands-on and supportive, ensuring that all students are able to grow their math abilities with confidence.
Learning Goals
Master Math Operations: Students will confidently perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and follow the order of operations.
Understand Fractions: Students will compare, add, and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators and work with mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Hawaii Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello! I'm Math Teacher Celia, a dedicated middle school math teacher and the creator of the Logical L.E.A.P. Math Method. With over a decade of experience in the field of education, I reside in Hawaii and hold degrees from Illinois State University, Olivet Nazarene University, and Western Governors University. My academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Business and two Master’s degrees in Teaching and Special Education, which equip me with a diverse and robust educational approach.
Since the beginning of my career fresh out of graduate school in 2009, I have been passionately committed to teaching math. My enthusiasm for math education has helped me avoid the common pitfalls of teacher burnout, allowing me to continually thrive in my profession. I have a proven track record of improving student performance, exemplified by an increase in test scores from 83% to 87% in my first year of teaching, with the majority of students meeting or exceeding the Common Core math standards.
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted educational norms, raising serious concerns among parents about their children’s academic progress. Recognizing the challenges posed by remote learning and the potential learning losses during this period, I have developed specialized online Common Core Math courses for middle schoolers. These courses are designed to ensure that your child not only catches up but excels in their math education.
In my courses, students will:
-Engage in lessons that are structured around the Logical Leap Math Method, which I personally developed to enhance learning through tailored strategies.
-Cover the entire Common Core Math curriculum for upper elementary, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of essential concepts.
-Receive a personalized education plan that aligns with their unique learning needs and goals.
Choosing my class means entrusting your child's math education to an experienced and passionate educator who might just become their favorite teacher. Let's make math exciting and accessible together!
