1 hour per week. Students are expected to write down 5-10 "what if" questions for each session and bring them to class to share. It's very important to have them written and not rely on memory.Class Experience
What if Spider-Man was afraid of heights? What if Captain America had never been frozen? What if Loki had ascended the throne of Asgard? What if Hulk had a food named after him? Learners are expected to bring 10 pre-written questions to class for discussion. We will take turns asking questions. Questions can be funny or serous, simple or complex. This class is student-led 100% discussion-based. Learners will use their imaginations to think up endless "what if" scenarios that could have happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we will discuss the possible effects of those changes on the Marvel timeline. I will provide a loose theme for each week's ideas to guide the discussion. Make sure to check the date in the class listing to see the weekly themes. Learners should bring 10 "what if" ideas per class session. We may discuss one or several ideas per session, depending on how long the learners discuss each scenario. There will be no time limit on discussions. If one discussion is still ongoing at the end of class, we will pause it and pick back up where we left of next time. I will have a standby list of discussion topics in the event that learners do not bring enough discussion questions. However, this is NOT a teacher-led discussion class. In order for the class to be student-led, as intended, it's very important for students to really think about the questions they bring and then actively participate in group discussion. This class encourages the following skills: critical thinking, imagination, effective and respectful communication, turn-taking in conversation, and understanding and respecting different points of view. Learners are expected to have either seen all the movies in the MCU or be okay with spoilers. All of my classes are inclusive of every type of learner. If you have any special accommodation needs, please message me and I will do my very best. Weekly dates and topics: Week of 3/22-28: What if...Guardians of the Galaxy Edition Week of 3/29-4/4: What if...Villains Edition Week of 4/5-11: What if...Avengers Edition Week of 4/12-18: What if...Spider-Man Edition Dates and topics will be added within 2 weeks of class time.
