Class Experience

Avengers, assemble to discuss your favorite movies with other die-hard Marvel fans like yourself. You will watch the movies on your own before each class so we can spend the entire class discussing it.

Classes will include conversation starters and thought-provoking questions to lead the discussion. We will discuss character arcs, plot elements, film analysis, interesting cameos, Easter eggs, and our favorite and least favorite characters, scenes, etc. This is an ongoing course. Each lesson stands on its own, so students are free to take as many or as few lessons in this series as they desire. I will allow students to discuss how the day's movie ties in to future movies, so beware of spoilers if you haven't seen all the movies, particularly Infinity War and Endgame.

We will practice both formal and informal discussion. Formal discussion topics include history, the movie's central theme, character arcs, film analysis, and life lessons. Informal discussion topics include what each student liked and disliked about the movies, favorite and least favorite scenes, and how the student may have written a character or scene differently and why. Students will get the most out of this class if they view the selected movie within the week prior to the class to aid memory.

As always, my classes are inclusive of every type of learner. Please let me know if I can accommodate any special needs your learner may have.

Marvel toys and costumes welcome!

Excelsior!

For each class:
Students will watch the movie on their own before class.
In class, we will:
- introduce ourselves
- discuss the main character(s) and other major and minor characters
-discuss the movie's setting
-discuss any relevant real world and or MCU history. For some lessons, this will include short videos
-talk about favorite/least scenes, characters, and events, etc.

We will discuss the MCU movies in RELEASE order, not chronological order.

Learning Goals

This is a safe space for students to come together with others who share their interests and passions. There is much to be learned from these brilliant movies. They teach important life lessons like standing up for what you believe in and never giving up. Students will also gain insights from hearing opinions that differ from their own. They will practice respectfully conversing with peers with whom they agree and disagree. They may even learn a thing or two about real life history!

This class isn't tech-heavy. There maybe a few slides and a occasional short video to watch, but the primary focus of this class is person-to-person conversation!

Parental Guidance
I recommend that parents look up each movie on commonsemsemedia.com before allowing sensitive students to view the movies. These movies contain violence, death, dark themes, language, etc. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure these movies are developmentally appropriate for their children.

I've been a die-hard MCU fan since day one. I still cry every time. Stan Lee is one of my heroes and I miss his playful interaction with his fan-base and the little nuggets of wisdom he often dropped.
