Marine Biology – Mysterious and Extinct Sharks & Beasts Weekly Camp (8-Weeks)

In this 8-day camp, we will meet 1x/week, for 8-weeks, to discover known, mysterious and extinct prehistoric sharks and beasts. From Megalodon to Mosasaurus, in each class we geographically locate fossils, track time periods, compare sizes, draw, write, and learn the science and history of these marine animals.

After having three successful Outschool classes on Cage Diving with Great White Sharks, Shark Showdown and Sharks of the DEEP, I wanted to create a class for all those Megalodon and Extinct Shark enthusiasts! Children love to talk shark, engage with each other, listen, think critically, and share their personal findings and stories.

In this 8-week class, we will meet once a week.

Class Format:
-SHARE TIME-Open class with ANY shark facts and discovery discussion! (I have found there is always so much to talk about!)

-REVIEW TIME of the previous week's beast and facts remembered.
-Student's findings for the "Beast of the Week." (At the end of class a shark for the following week will be selected. Children will have the week to research their findings and bring them to class!). While doing this we will interact, listen and communicate our findings, thoughts, and facts in an engaging way.

-WORKSHEET TIME of the specific shark, its prey, location (using a map), time period timeline, size comparison, swimming depths, and defense traits.

-VIDEO TIME (short clip video) of the specific shark and talk about the environment of the clip. (Examples: Where did we find fossils of the Megalodon? Why were these BEASTS so big?)

-GAME TIME

Extinct Beasts covered per class (in order)-
Week 1- Megalodon Shark
Week 2- Helicoprion Shark (Saw-Like Mouth) & Edestus Shark (Scissor Like Mouth)
Week 3- Livyatan (Largest Whale to Ever Live)
