Beginner Level
In this 4-week interactive art and STEM influenced class, learners will design, wire, and sew their own light-up felt banners! Through hands-on activities and daily experiments, students will learn about and observe electricity in action while creating a glowing work of art. Each class begins with a fun icebreaker to help learners connect and build a welcoming, supportive environment. I encourage curiosity, questions, and creative problem-solving as we experiment and design together. What to Expect Each Week: 🔹 Week 1: Introduction to electricity and circuits. Learners will brainstorm and draw designs for the banners. 🔹 Week 2: Learning about conductivity with a simple brief experiment. We'll start sewing with metallic thread to create circuits. 🔹 Week 3: Complete the circuits. We'll connect it all together and make the lights go on! Learners will test and refine their designs. 🔹 Week 4: Adding finishing touches! Students will sew or glue decorative elements and complete their light-up banners. Skills & Concepts Covered: ✅ Basic electricity & circuits – How electricity flows and powers LEDs ✅ Conductors vs. non-conductors – What materials allow electricity to pass through? ✅ Sewing & crafting – How to sew a simple running stitch with conductive thread ✅ Design thinking – Planning and adjusting artwork to include the circuits ✅ Creative expression – Personalizing a light-up felt banner with fabric decorations and LED's This class is perfect for beginners—no prior sewing or electronics experience is needed! Learners will leave with a unique handmade creation to display and basic understanding of electricity. 🎈 Sibling Discount Available! If enrolling more than one child, message me before checkout for a discount. Payment Options: You may choose to pay for this class in full upfront or opt for weekly payments. If paying weekly, the per-class price is slightly higher (approximately 10% more) to reflect Outschool's flexible payment structure.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to:
✅ Design and create a light-up felt banner with LEDs and conductive thread

Lesson 2:
Week 2: Sewing Circuits & Experimenting with Conductivity
🔹 Quick review of electricity & circuit flow
🔹 Hands-on experiment with conductive and non-conductive materials, static electricity.
🔹 Step-by-step sewing tutorial (running stitch) using metallic thread
🔹 Learners begin sewing the conductive pathway for their LED circuit
📌 By the end of class: Learners will have their first circuit stitches completed and understand how conductive thread replaces wires in their design.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Week 3: Wiring the LEDs & Connecting the Battery
🔹 Let's light 'em up!
🔹 Attaching LEDs to the banner using conductive thread
🔹 Connecting the battery and testing the circuit

Hi! I’m Victoria, an experienced Art and Science educator, joyfully dedicated to combining creativity with STEM learning. I hold Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Biology and Dance, and I’ve spent several decades teaching in classrooms, online, and at the university level through arts integration teacher trainings.
As a public speaker at local and national Arts Education conferences, I love sharing how hands-on, creative learning deepens student engagement in science and the arts.
I’ve introduced hundreds of elementary students to e-textile projects, and seeing their enthusiasm and satisfaction when their LED creation lights up is always exciting! My goal is to ignite curiosity and confidence in learners as they explore both scientific concepts and artistic expression.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy hiking, painting, sewing, cooking, and home projects. I look forward to welcoming your learner into my classroom!
