Students who are talented and gifted in their first grade math skills but not yet ready for upper elementary style learning will be engaged and challenged in this weekly ongoing math class. Each week students will be engaged in a different math skills relevant to the theme of the month! Difficulty will continue to build as the weeks progress into the school year following curriculum based pattern however, each lesson will be focus on a different math skills independent of each other. Students will be encouraged to dress up relevant to the theme of the month and engage in a variety of games and handouts in order to build a love and understanding of math. Weekly, learners will practice math skills to set them up for success in their future elementary math work and beyond! This class meets once a week; we will cover different material each week. Additional worksheets relevant to the focus of each week will be posted the day before the class occurs in addition to any specific materials needed (ex. crayons, pencil, etc) Please note that we will not focus on early first grade skills in this class (ex. counting to 20 or number identification, addition and subtraction within 20) and learners should already be able to do so comfortably before enrolling. Please note in this class we will work at skill level not grade level, students should however, be first grade age (6-8 years old). Weekly Lesson Topics: Nov 1st - Introduction to multi-digit multiplicaiton Nov 8th - Multi-digit multiplication Nov 15th - Exploring Negative Numbers Nov 22nd - Exploring Negative Numbers Continued Nov 29th - Introductions to Fractions Dec 6th - Fractions Continued Dec 13th - What's a Decimal? Dec 20th - Geometry - Lines of Symmetry Dec 27th - Advanced Place Value The class will cover (not all included each lesson) a mixture of the following kindergarten math skills including but not limited to: - Coins and money - Adding and subtracting beyond 100 - Multi digit addition, subtraction and multiplication - Counting beyond 1000 - Time - Geometry - Multiplication - Division - Graphing and Probability **NOTE: This is an ongoing class and you are able to join in at any time! *
Learning Goals
Students will work towards gaining confidence, understanding and efficiency in math skills. Each class will focus on different, skill level appropriate math skills as students work improving their abilities in topics such as numbers beyond 1000, multiplication, division, geometry, comparing values (positive and negative) and many more. As the topic addressed will change each week, the learning goal for each week will vary slightly based on the specific topic however, in general the learning goals of each class include gaining confidence and understanding math skills.

Supply List
Students will require a pencil and coloured pencils, crayons or markers for each session. Handouts will be posted 7 days prior to class in the classroom to be printed and brought to class. Each week a message will be posted in classroom with a reminder about the handout(s) for the week as well as if any additional materials are needed.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, honors specialization in fitness and exercise prescription. Additionally, I have had significant experience teaching preschool and elementary math to children as a traditional and non-traditional educator, both in group and private tutoring settings.
