Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Egypt has a long and storied history, and is one of the most studied cultures by archaeologists and enthusiasts alike! Students will get an introduction to the history of archaeological inquiry in Egypt (also known as Egyptology!), learning about how ancient Egyptians lived (language, writing, and religion), as well as some of the adventurous figures of the 19th and 20th centuries who pioneered archaeology in the area!

The course will follow the general outline for each week, though it is subject to change based on class discussion and participation!:

1. Ancient Egyptian Religion: Gods & Mummies
2. The Building of the Pyramids
3. Hieroglyphics & Writing
4. Victorian Adventures: Egyptology in the 19th & 20th Centuries

The class is listed as 40 minutes, but depending on class size and level of discussion, may take up 50 minutes.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a BA in Cultural Anthropology and an MA in Bioarchaeology, as well as a BFA in Theatre Performance from Tulane University in beautiful New Orleans, LA. I love anything related to the humanities and the sciences, particularly where the two meet: archaeology!

I have been teaching with Outschool for over seven years, interacting with students from ages 9-18. I believe in a casual and interactive approach to teaching and learning, which I have brought into my career as a humanities teacher at Fusion Academy in Boulder County, CO.

My classes typically encompass a wide age range. If you have an older child and are hesitant to enroll in one of my courses, I provide extra materials to older students to offer them even more of a challenge, so that the growth and learning experience of each student is individualised. Also, if you have a younger child with a keen interest in the course topic, feel free to discuss with me how they would fit into the class environment!
