Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
"Play is one of the most important ways in which young children gain essential knowledge and skills." ~UNICEF, 2018

Come experience my favorite things about Germany—the things and places I loved when I was a kid in Germany with my mom and Oma and Opa! This class prepares learners for what they'll see when they visit Germany. Through fun activities such as songs, rhymes, games, and coloring, learners will become comfortable with the key words and phrases they'll need in country. In each meeting, we learn four different keywords, while also making friends.

NOTE ON TEACHER
I will start your child on the same joyful journey of learning German that I began as a child with my German mother and continued through college and beyond. I earned a B.A. in German and went on to serve for a year in the German Bundestag, a position of 100% language immersion. I hope to set your child on this same path of lifelong learning.

TEACHING METHOD
You'll notice I cap all of my classes at 5 learners — this way I can see all of the learners' screens at all times and they can all see each other for maximum group engagement. I also keep the class focused on my face, voice, and physical visual aids such as flannel pieces, magnetic cutouts, books, and printable worksheets. Studies show kids learn best through face-to-face interaction, so I avoid slides or virtual graphics that render my screen small and make the other learners' screens disappear. Learning in my class is centered on human-to-human connection, which creates a deep, more permanent learning experience. Come see for yourself!

Learning Goals

Students will learn the words and phrases they can look forward to encountering on a visit to Germany. This class sets a foundation and desire for future learning.
