Class Experience

In this One-to-One ongoing class, students will work to achieve a personal goal by making and following an action plan. Students can expect to be challenged, motivated, encouraged and held accountable until the desired results are achieved. Benjamin Franklin said, "You can do anything you set your mind to." So easy to say, but not so easy to do, right? Acting as both a teacher and personal coach, I will help guide students through the process until they have accomplished their goal.

We begin with a discussion of goals, actions plans, measurable results, and time management skills. All of these are critical components in achieving anything in life. Then, we identify the particular goal(s) that the student wants to achieve. Working together, we will break it down step-by-step to figure out how to achieve that goal and get from point A to point B. I will walk students through this process and check-in each week to see how things are going. I will hold students accountable to actually working their plan and also challenge them to push past their comfort zones when needed. This accountability part of our classes will be a key factor in helping your learner do what they say they are going to do. Students will also be encouraged and motivated along the way so that they feel supported and capable of achieving their goal. If, at any time, learners feel that something is not working in their plan, we will revise it and keep working at it until they experience the results that they want. Students will get out of class what they put in because only they can do the work. However, they won't be doing it alone as I help them evaluate and reflect on their progress. Often times in life, we know what we need to do, but we just don't know how to do it or we feel as if it's too hard to do it. Nothing is really too hard, just like Ben Franklin was talking about. And, now, brain research is actually supporting his statement and proving how important and powerful our mindset is in our abilities to grow and be successful in all areas of life.

So is your learner ready? Ready ... to apply to that college? to get control of the clutter in their bedroom? to do better in school? to stop procrastinating? to make more friends? to build a career or business linked to their passion? to use their time more wisely? to get on a budget? to get organized? to get on a schedule? to get healthier? to communicate better? to think more positive? to join that club? to make that team? to get along with others? to get that job? to learn a new skill? The possibilities of what your learner would like to achieve are vast. Just know that no matter what, I believe in their potential and know that they are capable of accomplishing great things during our time together.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
When becoming self-aware on issues or habits preventing the success you want in life, it can be frustrating or upsetting at times. It can also feel aggravating or overwhelming to implement changes in doing and thinking to achieve your goals. This is temporary, but part of the growing process. Should these feelings arise, extra support and encouragement will go a long way and remind your learner that they can do it!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
This topic is the heart of who I am as an educator. I have a teaching degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. I have a master's degree in School Counseling and am also a certified life coach. I have almost 22 years of teaching experience in public education, working with 9th-12th graders. I have worked with thousands of students through the years, and I believed in the greatness and potential of each and every one. I believe it about your learner as well! I want them to feel and be successful in whatever they want to achieve. Too often, learners lack the confidence to go after what they want. If I could wave a magic wand in class, it would be for them to see what they are truly capable of. Unfortunately, I don't have a magic wand, but I do have the skills and heart to help them realize they really can achieve anything they set their mind to.
